This fall fashion seems to be all about the 70’s. The 70’s have had an influence including lots of Fringe, Tie Tops, Long Sweater Coats, Shearling Vests and Jackets and Flared Jeans. There also seems to be a Bohemian influence as well. The runway fashions always tend to be a bit too far out for everyday life, but there are lots of ways to incorporate the trends in a more relatable way. Needless to say, the fall trends are looking pretty fun but might not be for everyone.
Fringe can be found everywhere on just about everything from boots to purses. I am not feeling the fringe purse trend myself, but I am considering some cute fringe booties. I also purchased the fringe scarf pictured during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this summer and the fringe necklace from Glamour Farms in the process of putting this post together….SHHHHHH don’t tell my husband!! #insertwinkyface (more…)
I have seen several other teacher bloggers share tours of their classrooms so I thought I would do the same. My 7th grade science classroom is a colorful place to be….what can I say, I’m a very visual person. Besides that, I spend so much time in my room during the school year that I want it to be a pleasant place to be. There is no sense in looking at 4 blank and boring walls all of the time.
This year was the first year that I didn’t have to move my classroom in about 4 years. I was beyond thrilled both because it is a ton of work and I love where my room is located and the people teaching nearby. Not moving meant that I had lots of extra time available to work on things in my room and after a very challenging year last year I knew I wanted to make some changes to some of my procedures. The weather here this week has been glorious….highs in the 70’s and had made me start thinking about fall and taking stock of my wardrobe. There are lots of great trends this season which I will focus on in another post, but it is the wardrobe basics that are necessary to have as a foundation for the trends. This got me thinking about what the “essential” pieces to have when building a wardrobe really are. It didn’t take long to find lots of fall wardrobe essential lists on Pinterest. Here are some I liked the best….
The long awaited deco mesh wreath has finally arrived. You won’t believe just how easy this is to make. As long as you can cut and twist a pipe cleaner you have the necessary skills. I first found this on Pinterest of course and decided to make one for my classroom. Here is my original Pinsperation….. (more…)
Well I was worried about a plateau and it was even worse this week…..I gained a pound…UGH!! Oh well, such is life…..I’ll do better next week and maybe I won’t eat a candy bar and a delicious Laura’s Cookie the day before and the day of a weigh-in. DUH!! I was a little lazy about tracking my food and found myself trying to do 2 days at a time which is a bad idea. It is always best to hold myself accountable right when I finish eating or even before I start to eat. That is really how it is intended to work. Lesson learned….the program only works when you follow it the way it is set up.
On a happier note, today is National Dog Day….or at least that is what my FB wall is full of today so I thought I would share my sweet loves with all of you. I know, I know….the only thing worse than someone with 1,000 baby pictures is someone with pictures of their dogs!!! LOL But to that I say, I love both babies and dogs so bring on the pics! 🙂
This my sweet old man Scooter. He will be 13 next month, and he is such a great dog. We adopted him from a rescue about an hour north of where we live. His mother was rescued from a puppy mill while she was pregnant with a litter and Scooter was one of that litter. Happily that was her last litter and she also went to a forever home to be loved.
This lovely girl is my sweet Lucy. The first picture is the one that got me hooked and captured my heart when I saw it on Facebook….I just knew we had to make the trip to get her. The second picture was taken when I first met her. We adopted her from a shelter in Bryson City North Carolina which is about an 8-9 hour drive. The last pic was taken about 2 weeks ago….is that not just the sweetest face ever???!!!??? She is about 3 years old now.
This handsome boy is my Murphy. He was another rescue that I found through the gal that does my hair….long story short…..he was out running stray in the dead of winter and someone brought him in so he wouldn’t freeze to death but couldn’t keep him. Lucky me, because he is such a loving boy. The first picture was on our first visit to the vet the day after we got him. The second picture is him chilling on the back of his favorite chair a few months ago.
Enough about Wild Kingdom…LOL. Tomorrow the long awaited Deco Mesh Wreath Post will be my Throw Back Thursday. I just finished making it a little while ago….until then…
I apologize for the poor picture quality today….I know my pictures are never the best but today I had to use my phone because I forgot my camera in my Cheer Bag at school…UGH! Anyway, today’s outfit is from Sam’s Club and Target. I bought the top a couple of weeks ago at Sam’s Club for about $18. They had it in a variety of colors, but I knew I had these black pants that would be great with it so I went with the black. Besides…black is always just a safe bet. I love the chevron print and the sweater is really light…perfect for that summer to fall transition. It also has an attached tank top underneath because it is a pretty loose knit.
I bought the ankle pants at Target last winter. It doesn’t look like they are available anymore, but these are similar. They are super comfortable and you will likely be seeing them again and again.
The necklace is from StitchFix and the bracelets are Alex & Ani. The shoes are my very favorite Coach flip flops. Although it was feeling a bit like fall in the air this morning, I am going to hold on to my flip flops for as long as I can.
Hi! The first week of school is in the books as a good friend of mine always says. It was probably the smoothest first week I have ever had. I didn’t get to post as much as I would have liked, but I think I have a handle on the school stuff now so I am hoping to get more posted this week.
Today I am sharing Mason Jars again….I know….I have a problem. There is just so much you can do with them though and they are so inexpensive. This time I am sharing some that are in my guest bedroom. I redecorated it over the summer in gray and dark blue and I needed something for on top of the dresser. Here are my Pinsperations… (more…)
I had another good week at my weigh-in….I am down another 2 pounds. That makes a total of 8 in the first 3 weeks including the first week which wasn’t really official but I have changed my mind about counting it. I figure I did the work…..I am taking the credit!! I still have a long way to go though. Here’s hoping I don’t hit that first awful plateau this week.
My goal is about 70 pounds….that just sounds impossible right now so I am trying to focus on smaller goals along the way so it feels more manageable. My first goal is 10 pounds and when I get there I am getting a pedicure. I hope it is next week….I need one pretty bad!!
Once again my pedometer goal was a total bust. I forgot it most of the time still and when I did wear it I don’t think it was very accurate. Maybe it was where I had it on my belt, but I know I walked WAY more than 3,000 steps on Monday when I was getting everything ready for the first day of school. Oh well….if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.
Being back at school has been sort of nice…not that I wouldn’t rather it still be vacation!! It is just nice to get back into a routine, getting up every morning and getting myself together instead of walking around looking homeless like I did most of the summer. I think that makes The Hubs happier too, although he would never admit it because he is too darn nice. I also seem to have a really nice group of kids this year which is such a relief. It is amazing what a difference that makes.
Here is what I wore to school for the first day. I am generally pretty casual for school but with it being the first day I figured I should at least put on a dress even if I did still wear my flip flops!! I found this dress the night before at Target….I love Target and all of its wonderful fashion deals. It is on clearance at their website for only $9.98…I am pretty sure I paid $19.99 for it at the store which was still a great deal. It is available in a few different colors online and there are lots of sizes still left. I am resisting the urge to buy another one. #multiplesqueen
The sweater is one I have had for a couple of years. It is an Old Navy boyfriend sweater. The exact one I am wearing is no longer available, but there are some very similar to it on their website for $29.94. The belt is also an old one from Old Navy and the necklace is the same tassel necklace you have seen me wear before from Glamour Farms. The shoes are from Marshall’s earlier this summer and they were a steal for only $12. With 2 days of school under my belt now I am feeling pretty worn out so this girl is going to bed early tonight!!
Well, it was inevitable….summer came to end today and I had to return to school. Fortunately I work in a district that really knows how to kick off a new school year is style. This year that meant 70’s style! Each year we have a welcome back breakfast and the theme this year was the 70’s. My superintendent who is about 6’4″ was wearing black bell bottom pants, a hot pink jacket, zebra print platform shoes, a black afro wig, big glasses, and a shaggy mustache. The school treasurer had an equally colorful get up. Excuse the awful picture quality. I used my phone and they are not very clear but I just had to share so you could really get just how much they jumped into the theme this year. (more…)
I have a few girls that are quite special to me leaving for college for the first time very soon and I wanted to get them something as they head off on their great new adventure. College kids need just about everything, but some of it is a matter of personal taste like bedding and towels so I wanted to focus on practical things instead. I thought they might be so focused on the big stuff that they might forget lots of the little, but oh so necessary, stuff. Here is a pic of what I put together for one of them. (more…)
