Throw Back Thursday-Entryway Gallery

Hi….as I was trying to decide what to do for my Throw Back Thursday project this week I was going through my e-mails and came across a blog post from a gal I follow.  Check out her site, Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer… is full of great stuff.  It was all about creating gallery walls and since that was one of the choices on my list I decided to go with it.

I LOVE a gallery wall.  Some would argue that I have several in my own home and they would be right.  I like the interest they create and the nature of a gallery wall can allow for some wiggle room when it comes to hanging your items.  I have one wall where I hung everything in very straight rows and it felt like it took forever.

Back on the Wagon

Hi….There is nothing like posting pics of yourself on  internet to give you a wake-up call about your weight!  I knew things were not in a great place with my bathroom scale (I think it lies….maybe a little) but the more pics I posted the more it became clear that it was time to do something about it.  #thestruggleisreal  The Hubs and I did Weight Watchers several years ago and had great success.  Between us we lost about 100 pounds.  Sadly….we have not kept that weight off and we are right back where we started.  It’s true…..we are Weight Watchers drop outs!!  However, our fat story does not end there!  We have decided to get back on the wagon and start Weight Watchers again….YAY!! Paying it Forward

Hi….No fun projects or cute fashion posts today.  I just want to share with you about my day because I had the best morning doing some volunteer work for Shoes for the Shoeless.  Shoes have long been close to my heart, but today they presented themselves to me in such a different way.  Shoes for the Shoeless is a faith-based non-profit organization that provides new gym shoes and socks to children in need.  The Hub’s employer is really big on giving back to the community and allows them to donate their time and efforts during the work day if necessary.  Once his team has a combined contribution of 500 hours of service to a particular organization his company will then donate $5,000 to the cause.  What a cool thing!!!!

The Hubs has been talking about how fun it is to help the kids pick out a new pair of shoes and to see the smiles on their faces when they finally have a pair of shoes that fit properly, so when he told me they were going out again today they allowed me to tag along.  Wow is all I can say!!  I am blessed to have lived a pretty comfortable life and I have been way too sheltered.  Today was very eye opening and it was only a very small group of kids.  It is easy to forget just how many people are struggling every day just to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.  Something like 40% of the children in my county live in poverty which is so hard to believe.  I have always thought that I lived in a fairly comfortable area, but I guess I haven’t paid enough attention to those outside my small little corner of the world.

I am hoping to go again before cheerleading and the school year take over my schedule.  I might even see if some of the Cheerios want to pitch in as well.  Not only is it just the right thing to do, but it also reminds us of our many blessings and just how lucky we are.  I will think twice from now on when I am frustrated that I don’t have the right pair of shoes for an outfit……at least I have shoes and way too many to choose from if I am being honest.  Even on a bad day….things could be so much worse!

If you would like to get involved with Shoes for the Shoeless I am attaching the link to their website here.  You won’t be sorry if you do….I promise!!  I almost feel a little guilty, because although those sweet kiddos got new shoes today I feel like I got so much more!!!

Who have you done volunteer work with and what did you do??

Have a Great One All!

Chalkboard Welcome Sign

I had a slate “Welcome” sign on my house that we took down when we painted the brick.  It didn’t really match everything else anymore so it was time to replace it.  Pinterest has just been FULL of chalkboards for quite some time so I knew that was the direction I wanted to go.  Here are a few of my Pinsperations… (more…)

We Painted the Brick!!

Painted Brick

This is a project I have been wanting to complete for a couple of years now.  I have never been happy with the color of the brick on my house.  It was sort of a weird orange color and I just felt like it really dated the house.  I had spent TONS of time on Pinterest looking at other painted brick homes and the more I looked the more I wanted to take the plunge.

Here is where we started….nothing awful but it just felt so old and dated.

Throw Back Thursday-Front Door Update

Front Door Update

Adding curb appeal does not have to cost a fortune.  Sometimes just a little paint and some creativity is all you need.  The is what happened with my front door a couple of summers ago.  In reality we needed a new front door, but that wasn’t in the budget.  However, I did have some paint leftover from another painting project that would at least add some life to our boring front door.  Here is where things started…..not awful but pretty boring and disjointed. Target Dress and Shoes

Today was Mah Jongg with the girls, so it was the perfect excuse to wear this new dress that I ordered from Target.  It is the same style as the black and white one I posted a couple of weeks ago.  (#queenofmultiples) It is just a really comfy and easy to wear dress that is super easy to dress up or down.  I also just love, love, love that it has pockets!!!  It is available in lilac, bright pink, and teal too….I am resisting the urge to buy another!!  This is one of those pieces that is just as easy to throw on as a t-shirt and shorts and it looks so much nicer.  I don’t know about you, but when I feel cuter I seem to have a better day.  I wore my black flip flops with it today, but when I got home there was yet another delivery from Target waiting for me and it was these shoes so I decided to add them to the post.  (#Idon’thaveaTargetproblem) (more…)

Desk Makeover

I painted this old teacher desk several years ago with white milk paint.  It has held up well but while looking around on Pinterest I saw this desk and decided that I needed to add some color to my own desk.  Could you not just die over the cuteness of this pink desk???!!!??? (more…)

Navy and Peach

Hi!  I have spent the last 2 days watching my high school cheerleaders run a cheer camp for the pee wee cheerleaders in our community.  This is always one of those times when I am reminded why I coach cheer….seeing my cheerios work with those little girls that look up to them is such a fun experience.  I don’t think my high school girls have any idea how much impact they have on these little girls…it is very cool and they make me so proud!! Throw Back Thursday-Garage Door

It’s time for another Throw Back Thursday project, this time it was the little facelift I gave the garage door.  Once again I must remind you that when I say “I” what I am really saying is “The Hubs” under my direction….must give credit where credit is due!!

This was the easiest and cheapest project and it has a great impact.  Even more than 2 years later, I still get compliments on it.  Our garage door started out as your standard boring, white, one car garage door….nothing special but nothing really wrong with it either.  Then I saw this Pinsperation and realized how much better it could be for next to nothing.
